My faith is all that I have at the end of the day, at the end of this life. Last night, I participated in a healing circle. The facilitator asked the group, “what is weighing you down that needs to be released, and what are you grateful for?” I value being my authentic self. You never know who might gain insight from what you decide to share. As people began to take their turns, I pondered what I should share with a group of strangers.
It was my turn. I shared, that I needed to let go of what others think about my life choices. Some think I’m “lost, hell bound, or confused.” Ultimately, I need to let go of fear, and allowing opinions of others to control me by using the Word of God to condemn, shame, and wrongfully reproof me. I shared that I was grateful for holding on to my faith. I strongly believe, and many have heard this before, that my paternal grandmother, Minnie modeled her faith to me. I had my faith before I became a mother and a wife. I am not going to let the disapproval from others about my life choices deceive me into thinking that I’m not loved by God or that I’m not a child of God, or that I’m a lost soul.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Why is faith so important? For me, its the expectation that there is light at the end of the tunnel; whether that is now on earth or after death. My faith anchors me to my maker, the truth, and life abundance.
As I started the process of re-finding, re-learning the core truths about my faith, it has reminded me that no MAN can take my faith away. Unfortunately, some Christians willingly or unknowingly attack, judge, hurt, and condemn those they should love. It can be difficult to separate what another human afflicts from God’s word. This is especially difficult, when you’ve learned about God from an unhealthy fear perspective, instead of through the lens of love. Love cannot be underestimated when it comes to the Gospel. Throughout the Bible, God’s love permeates.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
